Barry Beavis now has enough in the war chest to file an appeal and bundle. The fund was launched yesterday morning and took one day to achieve the target goal of £6,000
The fund was largely filled by ordinary motorists chipping in between £1 and £20, although there were also some larger donations.
The fact that the fund was filled so quickly shows the strength of feeling the ordinary person has on this subject.
The Prankster feels strongly that parking regulation is needed, but also that there is no need to bend the rules to achieve this. Parking charges at council fine levels (£25) have been shown to work, and co-incidentally are also at roughly the level of a pre-estimate of loss. There is therefore no need to re-interpret the law; the current law works.
Happy Parking

Looks like some feel very strongly about this judging from that photo. Thats one hell of a donation by anon. Not taking away from anyone else of course, as its all relative

ReplyDeleteVery strongly indeed. The whole thing was raised in around a day. From £1 to £1000, everyone did their bit. Even some tongue in cheek ones from Rachel Ledson, Patrick Trouserfire and Simon Renshaw-Smith :-)
ReplyDeleteFinally, we band together and fight for something worthwhile...
ReplyDeletewell done everyone!
I didn't see a contribution from Steve Clark of the BPA, I thought he was in favour of legislation.
ReplyDeleteSteve Clarke was the "Anonymous £1000", but you didn't hear that from me ;)
DeleteI've only just come across this. Is it too late to contribute - even if it's for Beavis to have a bacon sarnie during the court adjournments?
ReplyDeleteNever too late to throw in. Last contribution was just 5 minutes ago. Whatever you can spare will be greatly appreciated as there will always be unexpected expenses during the run up to the hearing. Crack on mate.
ReplyDeleteWho will be paying for the barristers - not poor Mr Beavis?!
ReplyDeleteI've been following this subject since my wallet was attacked a couple of years back, and I never thought I would disagree with the Prankster. But: "Parking charges at council fine levels (£25) have been shown to work, and co-incidentally are also at roughly the level of a pre-estimate of loss." I beg to disagree - reasonable economic charges are acceptable, but "fines" are institutionalised mugging IMHO, in most cases, unless the driver or keeper refuses to pay the stated charges via invoice or it's reminder. There is a better, fairer way to control parking - the technology is there that wasn't possible when pay & display was conceived. The system and culture surrounding it needs changing, including some legal aspects.
ReplyDeleteIronic that people have donated more to the fund than they have paid private parking!
